One of India’s leading industrialists, philanthropists and social entrepreneurs, he is the chairman of the Piramal Group and the Shriram Group.
He serves on the Harvard Business School’s Board of Dean’s Advisors, the Board of Management of Bombay Hospital and is the chairman of Pratham, the largest Indian NGO in the space of primary education.
Mr Piramal has also been a member of the Prime Minister’s Council for Trade and Industry and the Board of Trade constituted by the Ministry of Commerce. In addition, he was a member of the Indian government’s task force on pharmaceuticals and knowledge-based industries, and served on the board of the State Bank of India for 12 years.
Mr Piramal has attended the advanced management programme at Harvard and has done his masters from the Jamnalal Bajaj Institutue of Management Studies.
